Short.ovh Terms of Service
Last Updated: 30.03.20251. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") explain how Short.ovh ("we", "us" or "our") provides its URL shortening service (the "Service") and the conditions for its use. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and Short.ovh. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must not use the Service. By using Short.ovh, you also acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to our Privacy & Cookie Policy, including how we collect, use, and share your personal information.
2. Eligibility and Minors
You must be at least 13 years old to use our Service, and if you are under the age of majority (typically 18), you may only use the Service with the consent and supervision of your parent or legal guardian. By using the Service, you represent that you are either 18 or older, or 13 or older with parental/guardian consent.
We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to use Short.ovh or collect personal information from them, in compliance with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. Parents or guardians of users under 18 who use the Service agree to be responsible for the minor's activity and compliance with these Terms, and acknowledge that the Service may contain user-generated links unsuitable for children.
3. Service Description
Short.ovh provides an online platform to shorten or compress long URLs into shorter links for easier sharing. It also offers detailed analytics for link clicks. The Service is accessible globally to users in all regions. Short.ovh is free to use for basic functionality, with additional paid features available.
When you create a shortened URL through our Service, the short link will redirect users to the original target URL you provided. Important: We do not preview or filter the content of target URLs. Short.ovh is not responsible for the content, accuracy, legality, or safety of third-party websites you or others link to using our Service. Use caution when clicking on shortened links – you acknowledge that any third-party content accessed via our Service is solely at your own risk, and governed by that third party's terms and policies.
Short.ovh offers additional paid features, with payment transactions securely processed through Stripe. Your payment details are handled directly by Stripe and are not stored by Short.ovh. We only store data required to process your purchased features.
4. User Accounts and Security
Using Short.ovh does not require an account for basic link shortening. However, certain features might be limited or unavailable without a registered account. You are allowed to create and use only one account per person/organization.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activities that occur under it. If you suspect any unauthorized use of your account or a security breach, you must notify us immediately. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account. We encourage you to enable two-factor authentication on your account for added security.
5. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree to use Short.ovh only for lawful purposes and in compliance with these Terms and all applicable laws and regulations. You specifically agree NOT to:
Illegal or Harmful Content
Create shortened links or otherwise use the Service in connection with any content that is unlawful, fraudulent, obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, harassing, or harmful. This includes, without limitation, links to child sexual abuse material, hate speech, graphic violence, or any content that violates intellectual property rights or privacy rights of others. You are solely responsible for the content you shorten or share using our Service, and you must have the right to share that content.
Malware and Spam
Use the Service to distribute malware, viruses, Trojan horses, or any other harmful code. You also must not use Short.ovh to create links as part of unsolicited bulk messaging, spam, phishing scams, or any deceptive practices intended to mislead recipients.
Impersonation and Misrepresentation
Misrepresent your identity or affiliation in using the Service. You must not impersonate Short.ovh, its staff, or any other person or entity, or falsely imply that a shortened link is associated with or endorsed by Short.ovh when it is not.
Disruption of Service
Attempt to interfere with the proper working of Short.ovh or with any other user's use of the Service. This prohibition includes attacks such as denial-of-service (DoS), scanning or testing the vulnerability of any system or network (without authorization), or circumventing any security measures.
Automated Use
Use scripts, bots, or automated tools to create multiple shortened links or click on them in a manner that burdens our Service.
Prohibited Use of Data
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the Service. Also, do not harvest or collect personal data about other users of the Service without their consent.
Fraudulent or Deceptive Use
Use Short.ovh in any manner intended to mislead or defraud others (for example, using the Service to mask malicious links, to phish, or to artificially generate clicks through shortened links).
Short.ovh reserves the right to investigate and take appropriate action for any misuse of the Service. We may monitor usage for compliance and remove or disable any shortened links that violate these Terms, and/or suspend or terminate accounts engaged in prohibited activities.
6. Suspension and Termination
Termination by You
You may stop using the Service at any time. If you have an account, you can delete it (or request that we delete it) and discontinue use of Short.ovh.
Termination or Suspension by Us
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the Service (or any part thereof) at our sole discretion, with or without notice, if we determine that you have violated these Terms, pose a security or legal risk, or for any other reason. This includes the ability to remove or disable any shortened URLs or content that we believe violates our Terms or applicable law. Short.ovh reserves the right to modify, limit, or discontinue the Service or certain features at any time, with or without notice. If your account or access is terminated, you remain bound by these Terms with respect to any past use of the Service. Sections such as Indemnification, Disclaimers, Limitation of Liability, and Governing Law will survive termination of this agreement.
7. Intellectual Property
Our Content
All rights, title, and interest in and to the Short.ovh Service (including our software, databases, website design, and the Short.ovh name and logo) are owned by us or our licensors. These are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You are not granted any license to use our trademarks, logos, or other proprietary materials except as necessary to use the Service in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to reproduce, distribute, create derivative works from, or reverse engineer any portion of the Service except as expressly permitted by us.
Your Content
If you submit or create content through the Service (for example, the original URLs you shorten, custom aliases or descriptions, or other materials), you retain ownership of any intellectual property rights in that content. We do not claim ownership over your content. By using Short.ovh to shorten or share a link, you grant us a limited license to process, store, and display that content as needed to operate the Service (for example, to store the URL and redirect users to it, and to display it in your account dashboard or analytics). This license is non-exclusive and is only for the purpose of providing and improving the Service. You are solely responsible for the content you shorten or share and you represent that you have all necessary rights to submit that content and to grant us the above license. We are not responsible for any content you shorten or access through our Service, and you agree not to imply that Short.ovh endorses or is associated with any of your content.
8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Short.ovh and its owners, operators, affiliates, and agents from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) that arise out of or relate to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) any content or links you create, shorten, or share using the Service; (c) your violation of these Terms; or (d) your violation of any third-party rights or applicable law. We reserve the right to assume the exclusive defense and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you (at your expense), and you agree to cooperate with our defense of such matter. This indemnity obligation will survive any termination of your use of the Service or these Terms.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
Short.ovh provides the Service on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Use of the Service is at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the Service will meet your requirements or that it will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. We make no warranty or representation regarding the accuracy or reliability of any information obtained through the Service (including analytics data or previews), or that any defects in the Service will be corrected. Shortened links are simply pointers to third-party content; we do not guarantee or endorse the content of any third-party website you visit via a Short.ovh link, and we are not responsible for any harm or losses arising from your access to or use of such third-party content. You understand that when you click on a shortened URL, you may be redirected to an external site that we do not control. You should use appropriate caution and discretion when accessing third-party links. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above disclaimers may not apply to you. In such cases, our warranty obligations will be limited to the minimum extent required by applicable law.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Short.ovh and its owners or affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including, without limitation, damages for lost profits, lost revenues, lost data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill) arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the Service or any content obtained through the Service. This limitation of liability applies whether the claimed liability is based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other legal theory, even if we have been informed of the possibility of such damages. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the total liability of Short.ovh, its owners, and affiliates for any claims related to your use of the Service is limited to a maximum of $10 USD. Because the Service is generally provided for free, in most cases this means we have no financial liability to you. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for certain types of damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. In those jurisdictions, our liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these Terms shall limit or exclude liability that cannot be limited by law (for example, certain statutory liabilities for intentional misconduct or personal injury). You specifically acknowledge that Short.ovh is not liable for content provided by third parties or for the defamatory, offensive, or illegal conduct of any third party and that the risk of harm or damage from the foregoing lies entirely with you.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update or revise these Terms of Service from time to time. We recommend checking this page periodically to stay informed about any changes (last update time is shown at the top of this page). By continuing to use the Service after a revision takes effect, you agree to the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Service.
12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or related to them or the use of the Service shall be governed by the laws of Poland, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. By using the Service, you expressly agree that any such dispute shall be brought in the courts of competent jurisdiction located in Poland, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available in other locations, and use of the Service from jurisdictions where its content or operation may be illegal is prohibited. If you are a consumer located in a member state of the European Union or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protection laws, you may also be entitled to bring legal proceedings in your country of residence under those laws. In any case, nothing in these Terms will affect your rights as a consumer to rely on mandatory provisions of local law.
